  5. Who will win the UEFA cup? Manchester City of course!!!

  6. Who will be promoted to the Premiership? West Ham, Nottm Forest,

  7. Who will be the first sacked manager? Alex Ferguson (for his totally camp goal celebrations)

  8. FA cup winners? Bolton Wanderers.

  But I wouldn't put money on any of them!

  could someone explain why this date is incorrect, i had always been told that this date for babylon's conquest of israel was widely accepted by historians etc.

  (hence it was also critical in calculating 1914.

  )

  Every single textbook on ancient history I own gives the fall of Jerusalem as 587/586 BCE. But to me it doesn't matter anyway. 607 and 1914 are wrong for one very simple reason. Armageddon never happened.

  Instead the generation doctrine has had to be changed and I think that by the year 2014 the 607/1914 doctrine will be gone.

  Very interesting Alan.

  I noticed that cryoprecipitate which contains a small amount of plasma is in the personal decision list but plasma itself is in the not-allowed list. That doesn't make sense to me!

  I have a lot of day to day contact with JW relatives and as a result spend a lot of time biting my lip!!!

  What I can't say or choose not to say to them I can say here so I suppose it's therapeutic.

  Death and Resurrection

  i thought it would be interesting to raise a question that was brought up by mike purbrick (anybody know him) at the mts (england, 1992).

  the question relates to whether a resurrected peson is really the same person if they are only genetically identical and somehow impregnated with the memories of the deceased.

  in short, if my spirit is not personal to me, and no part of me survives to the resurrected being then can it really be me, or is it just a copy?

  I think this is a very interesting question jon and one I used to think about!

  The WTS teaches that at death we return to the dust and have no separate spirit that continues on. The soul is the physical body and the spirit is the 'breath of life'. (If I'm wrong please correct me!)

  I think to live forever there has to be a continuous line of consciousness and awareness. Once that line is broken then that being has ceased to exist. A resurrected or re-created body would be a perfect copy of a person, identical genetically with the same memories but would not be that person. Even using the same atoms to recreate the body would not recreate the original life as the line of consciousness has been broken. Your cloned body would then live forever thinking they were you but you would know nothing about it.

  To live forever would require a spirit separate from the body.

  It's only my opinion though!

  Another New Rule-----You Can't Record Prayers at the District Convention

  my mother told me that she got a video from a sister that already went to the convention.

  the entire program was recorded except for the prayers.

  the sister said the society says we have to shut off the recording if the prayer is being given.

  Maybe it's because the society realizes how tedious and dull the assembly prayers are. Hearing them once is once too much.

  Also for UK - did your congregation do anything with other congregations?

  hi eveyone, did your congregation ever have organised gatherings with other congregations nearby?

  my old congregation rarley mixed.

  there was so little social life that we had no choice but to visit other congs.. another question - did you get any counsel if you constantly attended a kingdom hall other than the one you were assigned to?

  Gadget - that all started in a pub called 'The Tavern' in Bolton about 10 years ago. Sunday night there would be about 400 people in there and 30% would be Witnesses. Because of trouble with the police the pub is now just an eating place. Great shame! Although I'd been DF'd most witnesses were friendly with me. Then again most of them were drunk! One night some Witnesses decided to dance on the DJ's platform. Very embarrasing. I just stood at the bar shaking my head in disbelief and lit a cigarette.

  UK only - What assembly circuit were you in?

  i was in the sussex circuit, can't remember which number though.

  any of you remember which circuit you're cong was assigned to?.

  The new book for children.

  my wife went to the convention yesterday and brought back the new book for children 'learn from the great teacher'.. it's certainly much better than the old pink book, larger and more colourful, even if the pictures have a 1950's feel to them.

  the introduction mentions that there are questions throughout the book that you should ask children to find out what is on their mind... saying ' true, the child may come out with with answers that are not correct.

  but the printed material that follows each question is designed to help the child to develop wholesome patterns of thinking'.... 'wholesome patterns of thinking' eh?
